LGBT Domestic Abuse Forum
‘Linking practitioners working to end domestic abuse towards the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) communities’
Objectives
The LGBT Domestic Abuse Forum is a network of practitioners, activists and researchers working around the issue of LGBT domestic abuse. It exists to provide a forum in which to meet, network and exchange good practice.
Background to the Forum
Domestic abuse affecting the LGBT communities is increasingly recognised, both by LGBT people themselves and service providers. Despite this, our knowledge and experience (and the services available in both the generic domestic abuse and LGBT sectors) remain limited.
To try and meet this challenge, the Forum was established by workers from two LGBT domestic abuse projects in 2006. The hope was that by developing closer links between individuals and organisations, we could improve the options available to LGBT people experiencing domestic abuse by sharing good practice and information about the services available in the
While the Forum aims to function as a problem-solving and enabling resource, it is not a service provider. For details about services in the
Since September 2007, the Greater London Domestic Violence Project (GLDVP) has agreed to host the Forum; the views expressed by the Forum do not necessarily reflect those of the GLDVP.

What is a forced marriage? - booklet
The Forced Marriage Unit have produced a new booklet aimed at LGBT communities. This booklet has been put together in association with MySalaam.com and aims to address a gap in their literature by providing relevant case-studies and signposting to LGBT victims of forced marriage. It is also intended to provide reassurance to LGBT victims that they should feel free to approach the FMU for assistance if they are facing a forced marriage situation, thus helping to tackle the fear of judgement that we are told that LGBT victims can feel in asking for help.
If you would like to request some hard copies of these booklets please do contact the unit at: fmu@fco.gov.uk and they will send them out to you as soon as possible. They would also welcome any feedback that you may have on this new product.
